Help! Units wont do actions lategame. 4v4 MP

Playing 4v4 games, gametime around 40ish minutes I noticed my units stop working during fights. I was playing aztecs and I had a mixup of jaguar warriors and pikemen, around 50units. I tried to give them commands during fight, but they just kept rotating facing enemy, taking half a step forward, make formation, rotate, take half step forward and repeat, until half of them died to archery fire. I tried selecting smaller groups as a work-around for navigation problems, but same thing repeated, now I had 2 squads taking half steps and basicly just stuttering forward, travelling around 1 unit length during 6~ volleys of arrows.

Finally I ragequited after getting pinched to narrow path, archers front and cavarly attacking my rear. Literally my troops just stood there. 2 units engaged in fight vs archers and rest just stood there until they died, moving a new pair to the choke, which is "fine" I guess since it was a chokepoint. Problem was that the cavarly kept hitting me from behind from no choke position, 7 could hit me at once, and I commanded my pikemen to attack them (they were behind my jaguars being hit by cav), but for some reason they refused to turn around and fight. I lost full stack of units getting only 2 kills, even tho I had the better composition, just because they refuse to act.

Now is this common problem I will face in all lategame 4v4, was the game just bugged, is there workaround? Pls help. :(
