Playing "Turbo Random Maps" on Fast (Game Speed)

So a few friends and I recently got back into this game and in the interest of saving time, we've been playing Turbo Random Maps on the Fast game-speed. We've played ~30 hours of games like this and although the games remain fun, the gameplay and strategies haven't changed much. So what kinds of gameplay are we going to be missing? How do most players usually play the game (in terms of game speed and the use of Turbo maps)? We still want keep individual games <1.5hrs.
