Save-Scumming bad way to practice against AI?

So, I've been very new to actually playing the game (coz my childhood decided to always use the cheat many years ago). I decided to watch the eSport scene one day and immediately interested, watching some basic strats.

Anyway, is save-scumming (not the heavy one) by creating multiple branches of major decisions a good way to do it?

I can see myself restarting too much otherwise. Also I won my 4-5ish game against AI on Moderate difficulty, with no rush and total boom/turtle (I don't really know the difference) just because of this.
