Historically speaking which civilizations would have made more sense.

For any amatuer (or professional) historians out there, if you were responsible for choosing which civs to include in aoe back when it was first designed, what would have you chosen.

From my basic research, it seems there are a few oddly picked options in this game that don't fit well timeline wise that I would replace, but I don't know what with.

eg. Sumerians, disappeared before the majority of the other civs first appeared. Yamato, appeared after the majority of the others disappeared. Palmyrans, lasted literally 4 years Choson, 14th to 19th century AD? seriously they belong in aoe3 not aoe1.
