How would you buff the Elephant Archer?

The Elephant Archer tends to be viewed as a bad unit for a lot of reasons. Multiple weaknesses, requires massing, high cost, low speed, etc. Even if you're up against masses of ranged units, it's generally not preferred because you could just use Onagers, Skirms, or other more cost-effective units. In fact, the only real reason to get the Elephant Archer nowadays is that Indians don't get the Arbalest anymore.

In essence, the Elephant Archer sounds like a unit that could use a buff and/or change. But what change would be appropriate?
