My friends and I found a bug where two players could control one player/color in game.

So the other day myself and two friends were playing a large settlers scenario and after a couple hours we decided to take a break, so we saved. Now beforehand, my friend thought he would be funny and he changed his name to the exact same name as mine. I didn’t think much of it.

Mind you, were playing over voobly.

So when we resumed our save file, we continued as normal, but almost immediately one of my friends freaked out and was like “Dude! I’m blue!”

I’m like yeah whatever. Even more excited, he says “No bro I’m blue, like for real!!”

We usually troll each other pretty hard. Now, the scenario we were playing was a map that’s 1000x1000 in size, and we do these large scenarios where we don’t really fight for the first hour or two. We build up our eco and build massive kingdoms, and with open teams, we can barter and be like “hey if you give me this land I’ll give you X gold” or “ok I won’t attack you but you’ll have to give me food”

Yeah we’re weird I guess.

But I was immediately in shock when my friend garret activated my plenty vault god power on my own land.

“See?!”

I couldn’t believe it. He could control my buildings, my units, and god powers. Everything. He could sabotage me if he wanted to. We basically controlled one player, as the title states. What was once a 1v1v1 FFA, was now a 2V1.

Before our save, my friend garret was green/player 3. After we reloaded the game he could no longer control green units. His villagers kept working but basically green was rendered a ‘dead’ AI player.

Anyway, we discussed restarting but instead, we enjoyed the moment and eventually slaughtered my friend bob.

Like most of you, I’m a long time player since 2003, but I had never thought this was possible. After the fact I later realized, what if three people had the same name? If you saved and reloaded, would they merge to the lowest numerical player on the scoreboard? Could you effectively setup a 3v3 match, save, and then reload with each team controlling one color?

Unfortunately our group is really small and it’s hard to get us all online at the same time. I’m curious to hear if any of you guys have experienced anything wacky like this before. Thanks for reading!
