Getting Started in Age of Empires II - Voobly?

I am getting back into Age of Empires II and, to curtail a song and dance that I am sure that you have all heard before, I was looking for some getting started tips.

A friend gifted me Age of Empires II HD on Steam last Christmas and I have been playing around against bots and gradually picking up on build orders and strategies.

I have also been watching a handful of Age of Empires II channels including Age of Empires Coach Nobody and T90Official.

A platform that is often referrenced and seems to come as highly recommended is Voobly.

I am an experienced mod user and mod maker from The Elder Scrolls franchise, so I am not new to the concept of modifying games, however I have not been able to find an up-to-date resource on setting-up Age of Empires II HD to work with Voobly, presumably using some kind of compatibility patch plus the Userpatch.

Could you point me to an up-to-date resource for getting set-up on Voobly and any other essential modifications to the game besides Userpatch, small trees and the popular grid mods? Additionally, are there any mods to make elevation easier to see and/or the resource heads-up display more visible?
