AoE DE Horrible performance with 2080ti

Hi everyone,

I just got AoE:DE, the nostalgia combined with the beautiful graphics made for a visual treat, however despite having a 9700k and 2080ti I get unplayable fps. Zoomed out it falls to 8-9 fps, zooming in gets 35ish. Doesn't matter what setting or resolution or zoom level I use. It's just absurd. On top of that the gpu usage is super high at 87-98%, which is a real head scratcher.

For comparison, AoE 2 DE runs at 80-100fps at 4k.

I'm extremely frustrated by the poor performance that's really hampering the whole experience, I was really looking to relive old memories through this game. If anyone has had a similar problem and managed to fix it I'd really appreciate it!
