Do pikes counter eagle warriors?

I noticed pikes get +1 vs eagles, which means that with the same upgrades, they have identical HP, same melee armor, but pikes attack faster and do 2 less damage. They are cheaper, too (while food and wood matter more in early castle, by mid/late, pikes should be really easy to pump, which is when eagles really become problematic). Thoughts on massing a few pikes in response to eagles? Or even just as home defense to deal with those pesky raids?
