Noob needs help countering micro gunpowder units

Hi guys!
I played my first online game yesterday (DE) and got absolutely destroyed by my opponents micro'd Turks gunpowder units. Economy wise I was pulling my own weight (I'm sort of a noob, I reach castle in 17 minutes and make knights with huns) but when my opponent brought on his army my knights were helpless. I tried to make scorpions to counter his units but his bombard cannons wiped those out too.
My question is, how do I counter someone who's micro-ing their archers/gunpowder units?
Any other tips will be really helpful. Thanks!
