The Khmer hidden Wood bonus Vs Vietnamese Wood bonus

When people say Khmer Eco bonus the focus often tends to shift toward how fast the food meter goes up and just not having to worry about placing farms right. But this also came with the added benefit that gets overlooked. Not having to build extra mills. Saving 100 wood on each mill lets just focus on only the wood saved on mills in this thread to see how it compares to the Vietnamese wood bonus.(Ignore the fast working farmers)

For calculations sake lets assume the Khmer player makes the first 8 farms around the starting TC and the first mill is built to get the farming upgrades and reseed option. A mill can support 8 farms optimally but since players do not tend to be a 100% optimal lets set it to a 6-8 range rather than a fixed number(if your anything like me you probably make a mill for every 5 farms). Lets also assume the Vietnamese player gets every upgrade including the first stone mining upgrade although its very less likely you would ever get stone mining upgrades. We will also ignore the farms around secondary and third TCs for calculations sake as it really depends on TC placement.

By mid castle age the average Eco of a player has around 40+ farms. 40 - 8(Farms around TC) - 7 (First mill) = 25 farms. Depending on optimization the Khmer could have saved around 300-400 wood on mills. The Vietnamese with Horse collar(75W) + Heavy plow(125W) + Double-bit Axe(50W) +Bow saw (100W) + Gold mining (75W) + Stone mining (75W) + Wheelbarrow (50W) = 550 wood (For reference the Hun player would have saved around 750 wood by the time but we all plays huns to not get housed not for the wood bonus)

By Late castle age depending on the game and player strategies (Khmer elephants means way more farms) The Khmer could save around 500 - 900W while the Vietnamese player would have saved around 750 - 900 wood(if you for some reason also did get the 2nd stone mining upgrade).

Wood saved Overall tends to be more in favor on the Vietnamese but I would argue that the Khmer no mill requirement is better. Lets say Both civs click up Heavy plow(Khmer using the wood saved from mills) and don't have wood anymore and a group enemy archer get inside your base. The khmer player now has an option to undo the heavy plow upgrade and queue up an Onager or just go with heavy plow while the Vietnamese player does not really have a choice. This is just an example but choices like these happen every time and having the wood to make the choice is always better.

For any Japanese fans don't worry they still get the last laugh as their discount extends to lumbercamps and mining camps. (Assuming your Lumbercamps + Mining camps > Mills)
