For me the skirmishers don't make any sense at all. They're armed with javelin and a shield but somehow they are an anti archer unit rather than infantry. For civ specific units, Memluks are extremely inaccurate. They were horse riders armed with bows and lance and they sure as hell didn't throw scimitars at their enemies.
On the other hand, cavalry archers are definitely the most historically accurate units. They can easily kill hordes of infantry and do well against heavy cavalry provided you have enough space to outmaneuver them. As for civ specific unique unit, I think longbowmen are historically accurate. They had high range and damage but low accuracy and they were deadly if they had some protection against a heavy cavalry charge.
