9x and 256x tech mods are crashing my game for multiplayer?

I recently was trying to play with my buddy after a coupler months on not playing the game and buying a new pc. I have AoEII:DE installed on my SSD and can play perfectly fine with no mods. I tried unsubscribing from the mods, closing the game and restarting, then subscribing to them again. Still doesn't work and once we try start up a game it crashes immediately.
