The pro scene has a serious naivety problem

Foremost this post does not accuse anyone of anything, nor should it give an incentive to suspect anyone of doing anything when there is no clear evidence for doing so, as it can be really bad for the imago of a player

Voicing very genuine concerns from a not very involved member I have made the following observations:

• Interest in the pro scene has been rising from multiple parties that may or may not be new to the scene
• Prize money has risen very significantly as is any money involved in the scene; as is interest by other parties in this money who could not share in it previously
• Any voices of concern whether genuine or not are heavily censored (the reddit sub has more sleeping mods) as any bad accusations can take a toll on the spirit of the scene and also for example sponsorships. Additionally pros themselves want to stay away from this subject as much as possible
• Subsequently there has been very little incentive to try and discourage and prevent cheating or prevent conflicts in interest
• Examples of interest can be a heavy gambling scene or parties that buy up players i.e. sponsors that are not independent

Furthermore two axiomatic facts can be declared:

• The incentive to cheat or meddle with results in pro matches rise with any increase in money being involved
• Even integrity of players you never had to wonder a second about may change simply because of money involved or gain of new interests

Further assumptions can be made:

• Being proactive in actively surveilling and setting zero tolerance examples in the subjects of cheating or meddling with results can discourage members to do so as it would make the risk any such actions would involve a lot more apparent
• When accusations are made in the future they can be more readily refuted as well because there is actual transparent evidence in doing so
• Being more proactive could hypothetically prevent a stinking pot from being opened in some hypothetical future

In a small tightknit scene where everyone has known each other for years you can put the responsibility of integrity on players themselves because of perceived good social control. In an expanding scene you just cannot put all of that responsibility on themselves anymore guys 😄
