As someone who has not played very much AOE2, I am having a hard time finding reliable information about the abilities of siege weapons. Other than towers, are there any defensive structures that will automatically protect your base? I placed some trebuchets near my castle, assuming that they would help to defend, and they did absolutely nothing unless I actively commanded them.
