AoE2 on MacBook Air with Crossover?

I have a fairly recent MacBook Air with a 120GB SSD. I was considering getting hold of a copy of Windows to run under BootCamp to run my Steam games (AoE2 and a few other similar RTS games) but this seems like a lot of trouble and will not leave me with much space on my hard drive.

I was able to find a few old postings online about running AoE2 under Crossover on Mac, but wondered how satisfactory this would be in practice. Is the performance good enough to join multiplayer games without ruining the experience for the other players, for example? Thanks for any pointers!
