The AoW booming challenge has been bugged since jan 23 (https://forums.ageofempires.com/t/art-of-war-challenges-are-bugged/67728) with no fix in the updated game yet, in that it *needs* a castle for imperial age, which afaik makes gold impossible. I've looked up videos of people getting gold and they're all barely making it using wood buildings. I think it *may* be impossible to get gold at the moment.
How has this not been fixed yet?
