Celts Woad Raiders vs Crossbows and Arbalest

Hi guys, I'm still learning the game and my elo floats from 900 to 1100.

I mainly play as Celts and i find massed crossbows and if late game arbalest really hard to beat.

However,lately i been experimenting with woad raiders and i gotta say,at my elo it works.

In castle age,normal woad raiders in numbers destroy crossbows even if massed.They are really fast and hard to micro against. At least at my elo.

What i do in late game is having tons of halbs as a meat shield. And go with woads from an angle.Celt infantry is super fast. I load a bunch of woads and halbs into to a bunch of siege rams and the arbalest player gets overwhelmed.

This tactic works great against Britons specially because they are a really slow civ.

I ask, are woad raiders supposed to counter archers? All i find in tutorials and yt videos is heavy cav,skirms and siege.

If not,maybe this only works because I'm playing at a lower elo?
