Need help constructing practical keybinds?

I'm used to the AoE 2 HD default binds for building; like S+Q or A+Q. At the same time, I hear most players use single keys for their go-to binds. The AoE 2 hd default is not very practical in some areas. Ctrl+U or J is a ridiculous stretch I would not use.

I've tried looking at profiles on the aokhotkeys site; some of them would confuse me, as their binds would contradict sometimes. Also, most of their keys would be reasonable, yet if I remember correctly, viper had his market and stables, etc. set to something across the keyboard. It seems hard to find a set up.

I know I can create my own set up, but I honestly don't know how. There are too many conflicting keybinds to take note of. As a new player it feels like it'd be quite hard to manage all that, without the knowledge of knowing all the binds in the first place.
