Haven't played aoe2 in many years. Have a few questions.

Is Age of Empires 2 more popular than 3? Why is that so? Shouldn't the latest installment of the game be better?

When I played AoE2, I played on Voobly for multiplayer. Is that still the place where I can find players for online play?

I am looking at a winter sale on Steam. But there are many different versions of AoE. I want to get the AoE version that everyone is playing, or that most people are playing. Is it AoE2 definitive edition or the regular version? And what is the difference between the two?
